Maria Moertl’s debut solo exhibition marks the emergence of a distinct and thoughtful voice in contemporary painting. Her work is grounded in direct personal experience, created during and following a recent three-month silent retreat.
Drawing from a decade of disciplined meditation practice and study of Buddhist philosophy, Maria approaches painting not as an escape from the world, but as a precise tool for observing it — from within.
The exhibition brings together 29 new works completed during the retreat, a selection of earlier pieces that trace her evolving visual language, and a short film documenting the meditative process that shaped this body of work. What unfolds is not a romanticized inner journey, but a clear, intimate, and disciplined exploration of the perception, emotion, and presence of inner visions that can provide
insight and guidance for others.
